Hajime Imamura

Born 1957 in Osaka. Completed the graduate program in Fine Arts at Kyoto City University of Arts in 1983. In the mid-1980s, Imamura started using lightweight materials such as cardboard, polystyrene foam, plaster, and wire. He is concerned with the overall atmosphere of sites that contain these works. In recent years he has consistently produced works that explore his interest in mushrooms and the self. Major exhibitions include “Hajime Imamura: Over the Ground, Under the Ground” (Itami City Museum of Art, Hyogo, 2006), “Shizubi Project 3: Symbiosis – Dissolving My Self Like a Mushroom” (Shizuoka City Museum of Art, Shizuoka, 2013), and “Starting Points: Japanese Art of the ’80s” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa, 2018; Takamatsu Art Museum, Kagawa, 2018; Shizuoka City Museum of Art, Shizuoka, 2019).
